The Bhatkal Muslim Jamath - Bangalore (BMJB)

The Bhatkal Muslim Jamath - Bangalore (BMJB) is an organization designed to promote harmony and co-operation among Nawayathi Muslim community in Bangalore. Established in 1967, the BMJB was a response to the growing need for a supportive Nawayathi Muslim community in Bangalore.

In the early 70s, BMJB members, the majority of whom were from business background andstudents, focused their efforts on education and social upliftment of community. It is no exaggeration to observe that the BMJB is deeply indebted toits founding members Janab SM YAHYA, Dr Usman Siddique, JanabJukaku Hassan bappa, Janab Jukkau abubaker, Janab Patel Meera Saheb, Janab Shabhandhari Mohiyidheen Saheb, Janab Kola Hassan, Janab SM Nizam, Dr. Zarrar, Janab Patel Sadiq , Dr khaja,Janab Iqbal Kola, Janab Askeri Ashmath, Janab Abdul aleem Kazia.

One among Major highlighting achievements for BMJB was to propose its founder President Janab SM Yahya’s candidature to Assembly election, who won the Assembly election from Bhatkal in 1972. This win elevated him to state politics as he was immediately appointed as the general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and later accommodated in AICC. Yahya was inducted first time in the Cabinet by then Chief Minister Devraj Urs as Minister for Labour, Tourism, Ports and Wakfs on December 19, 1973. He went on to adorn different Ministries like Education, Finance, Power, Industry, etc spanning three Assembly terms.

In 1978, nearly a decade after its formation, BMJB members met and discussed the need for student hostel facility in Bangalore for educational upliftment of Nawayath community.Idea behind construction of Shamshudheen memorial building was to fulfil the growing need of hostel facility, but due to opposition from local crowd, BMJB has to convert the idea of hostel to a commercial complex. Honourable vice president of india B.D. Jatti laid foundation stone for Shamshudheen memorial building.

2002 marked a milestone in BMJB’s history, as it’s long time dream of hostel came to existence, SM YAHYA memorial hostel, Located in one of the prime locations in Bangalore, has a facility to accommodate 80+ students, and have all the state of heart facility any students dream to be part of.

BMJB organizes Annual Eid-Milan get-together for the Nawayath residents in Bangalore. This is a solo opportunity for all the Nawayath Families, Working members and Students residing here to gather annually. Now attracts nearly 500 people every year.

In the past decade, with the growth of IT industry, most of BMJB members being qualified professionals sensed the need of having career guidance and vocational training program under BMJB, With the objective to Guide 'Job Seekers' who have completed their Education in professional courses to find the Right Job and secondly to Guide Students coming to Bangalore for further studies, and help them to select proper Colleges.

In the current tenure of BMJB, With the new objectives and new ideas under the strong leadership with a strong presence of highly qualified professionals, BMJB has aim to go one notch ahead and add feathers to its achievements having strong presence in social media, internet and in pace with technology.

BMJB also works closely with all other organization from bhatkal for the betterment of society. By focusing on self-development, education, outreach and social services, BMJB has cemented its place as a leading grassroots organization in the Bhatkal Muslim community.
